This story started when a family friend passed away and my father came into ownership of a collection of over 9000 negatives. He never knew what do do with them so they have been sitting in our home for over 30 years. When I finally had a look I realised there were so many amazing and unusual photos amongst them so I invested in a negative scanner and started scanning them. It is time consuming work but so interesting and worthwhile and I want the world to be able to appreciate this amazing collection. From a look online it appears that only 20 or so of these photos are available so I thought I'd start this project and offer them for sale to cover my time and costs.
The negative collection is from a world trip undertaken by London photographer J. Dearden Holmes. Holmes travelled through Egypt, India, Sri Lanka, Burma, Pakistan, Australia, New Zealand, Fiji, Tonga, Samoa, New Guinea, Borneo, Indonesia, Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, Vietnam, Cambodia, Hong Kong, Macao, China, South Korea, Japan, Hawaii, USA, Canada, Mexico, Cuba, Jamaica, Costa Rica, Panama, Peru, Chile, Argentina, Uruguay, Brazil and Portugal - taking fascinating photos of landscapes, cities and people along the way and photographing in his words 'many unique subjects off the beaten track'. He states in the index he wrote that this journey took 3 years but doesn't specify the dates although through some study I have estimated it as between 1915 and 1930, most probably mid-1920s.
I am slowly adding more of his photos, although who knows how long it will take to add all 9000, so I hope you enjoy browsing them and please don't hesitate to get in touch if you're interested in a particular country, topic or area as there is every chance that he went there or photographed it and I just haven't got round to uploading them yet.
